The Banbury mixer is also called rubber internal mixer, it constitutes an all-in-one rugged constructed machine that must be capable to process batch of chips, powder and other formats of rubber retrieved by end-of-life tires from our peeler machine. The Banbury mixer is composed by the main body, the rotors and the pressure floating weight.
The main body have grids of deep borings to ensure water circulation for optimum-distributed temperature control zones, as well as the rotors, which have their temperature control zone. The mixer body and the rotors are made of steel overlaid/cladded with hard facing material Stellite alloys. The mixing chamber must have a volume between 30 and 40 litres and is provided with dust stop systems around the rotor shafts at each end to prevent leakage: there must not be bearings between the mixing chamber and the rotating parts. The rotors must be designed with double helical profile; in correspondence with themselves, the rotors must be tangential and preferably with two flights each. The internal architecture of the mixing chamber and the rotors must be designed to maximise and uniform the distribution of the shear forces onto the rubber material. The machine shall be dimensioned properly to withstand a throughput rate of 50kg of ELT rubber per hour.
The mixing chamber must be equipped with a lower discharge of the mixed compound. The batch shall be released by the mean of a drop-door hydraulically actuated closing system. During mixing operations, the door is firmly locked in the machine stand. The floating weight must be actuated by a duly dimensioned pneumatic cylinder.
The machine must be equipped with safeties, adopting the necessary Health and Safety requirements appointed in the latest EU Machinery Directive.
