Supply and maintenance of an X-ray diffractometer for structural analysis of powder samples, solid surfaces and thin films
The Nanobiosciences Unit plans to purchase an instrument for the determination of the crystalline phase, and average crystallite size, of nanoparticles in powder form or in the form of thin deposited films or nanostructured surfaces. Some samples will be radiolabelled during or after synthesis, so the system will be located within the space available in the controlled area of the cyclotron laboratory. The samples to be analysed will be of a low enough activity so as not to interfere in any way with the electronics of the instrument, and the instrument will be placed in a laboratory with a low background radiation level. In addition to phase and crystallite size determination by XRD, the purchased instrument should also have SAXS capability for particle size determination.
