SA.CO.I.3 is a project jointly developed by Terna S.p.A. and EDF SA.
The SA.CO.I.3 project includes new 3-terminal HVDC interconnection between Sardinia, Corsica and Italian peninsula that will be realised by means of Line Commutated Converter (LCC) technology in bipolar configuration with electrodes. The rated DC voltage of each converter terminal will be ±200 kV with a nominal active power of 400 MW (Italian side) and 150 MW (French side).

The procurement involves the establishment of 2 separate EPC contracts (bi-partite contracts) and 1 common agreement (tri-partite contract).
Each EPC contract will be a bi-partite contract, one between Terna Rete Italia and the supplier for N.2 LCC converter stations 400 MW located in Codrongianos (Sardinia, Italy) and in Suvereto (Tuscany, Italy), the other one between EDF and the Supplier for N.1 LCC converter station 150 MW located in Lucciana (Corsica, France).
Each EPC contract shall include specific technical specifications, specific terms and conditions for Terna Rete Italia or for EDF and the Common Agreement (including common technical specifications) as an annex to each EPC contract. The Common Agreement shall be signed by Terna Rete Italia, EDF and the supplier.
Total maximum estimated value TERNA's EPC contract: 220 000 000,00 EUR (two hundred twenty millions).
Total maximum estimated value EDF's EPC contract: 130 000 000,00 EUR (one hundred thirty millions).
