Framework contract for supply of consumables and reagents to be used on the instrument Bio-Rad QX200™ Droplet Digital™ PCR system
The Molecular Biology and Genomics Unit (MBG) at the Institute for Health and Consumer Protection (IHCP) hosts the European Union reference laboratory for genetically modified food and feed (EU-RL GMFF, Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003 of the European Parliament and of the Council), which validates analytical methods for the detection, identification, and quantification of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in food and feed.
Quantitative PCR (qPCR) is up to today the golden standard technology in routine analysis of GMO presence in food and in feed and EU-RL GMFF has used qPCR for the validation of about 60 methods for quantitative detection of GMOs.
Nowadays, a new PCR-based technology, digital PCR is gaining consensus. Its droplet digital PCR (ddPCR) version in the brand Bio-Rad QX200 bought by the EURL has the capacity to compartmentalise a sample into up to 20 000 concurrent reactions, thus providing potential for higher precision and very low sensitivity with no requirements for use of certified reference materials. Such technology has the potential to enter into more routine use for screening and quantification of GMOs in samples by GM testing laboratories.
